Words like Wild Horses

Well you know, I don’t want you to go
I want you to stay…I want you to stay

You came to me like a flower on a tree
but when the rain came
all my blossoms fell from me
no pollination could touch your love to me

I know my heartstrings sing too slow
you whispered to me but I was made of stone
I need cool water to carve love into me
flowing water to carve you into me

I feel like bones are breaking in my heart
I want your love to heal and enfold me
I want your breath like ocean waves to cover me
I want your skin like a desert to welcome me

My guitar always plays the same old song
I wrote it for you but forgot to sing out loud
now every heartbeat tells me all I’ve done wrong
reverberations of all I’ve done wrong

You know I never wanted you to go
but my words were wild horses and ran away from me
I feel empty because I could not say
I want you to come to me and stay
